New Delhi, July 16

The Delhi BJP escalated their campaign against rising electricity charges with BJP MLAs meeting Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Tuesday. They demanded a special session to discuss the Power Purchase Agreement Charge (PPAC), pension surcharge and other fees impacting consumers.

Following their meeting, BJP leaders held a press conference to emphasise the urgency of these issues. The delegation included former Delhi BJP president and MLA Vijender Gupta, Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, Anil Vajpayee and Abhay Verma.

“We seek to bring the government’s attention to critical issues affecting Delhi and demand solutions to ensure accountability,” said Gupta. “The significant increase in electricity rates by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) under the guise of PPAC has placed a heavy burden on residents, who are also struggling with a severe drinking water shortage.”

Bisht criticised the Delhi Government’s handling of waterlogging problems. “The government’s failure to prepare for the monsoon has led to severe waterlogging issues,” he said.

Mahawar highlighted the recent flooding from the Munak canal as a major concern. “Despite advance warnings, the leaking barrage of the Munak canal broke, causing extensive flooding in several blocks in Bawana and affecting millions,” he reported.

Verma said, “We demand an immediate special session of the Delhi Assembly to discuss these public issues and establish government accountability.”

The BJP MLAs’ demands underscore the urgent need for the Delhi Government to address rising electricity costs, water shortages and infrastructure failures.

Vajpayee criticised the Delhi Government’s preoccupation with legal issues. “While there is a provision for monsoon sessions in state Assemblies across the country, the Delhi Government is preoccupied with securing bail and handling court proceedings for its jailed Chief Minister and ministers. It is clear that the people of Delhi have been left to their own fate by the AAP government,” Vajpayee remarked.

The BJP MLAs emphasised the need for transparency and accountability from the Delhi Government, expressing their commitment to advocating for the rights of Delhi residents. They urged the Assembly Speaker to convene a session to address these critical issues and alleviate the financial burden on the citizens of Delhi.
