New Delhi, July 25

Raja Iqbal Singh, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, and Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Delhi BJP media head, have condemned the AAP government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for delay in appointing a Scheduled Caste (SC) Mayor and the failure to establish the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission. The BJP leaders on Thursday urged Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena to take action on these issues.

“It is regrettable that due to the obstinacy of the AAP government, a SC Mayor is not being appointed in Delhi,” Singh said. “The Delhi Municipal Corporation Act mandates the appointment of a SC Mayor in the third year, but the process has stalled due to Kejriwal’s interference,” he added.

The BJP leaders wrote to Saxena, demanding immediate action to address these concerns. According to Singh and Kapoor, the Chief Minister must initiate the mayoral election process, but his inability to perform official duties due to being in jail has stalled this process.
