BJP govt failed on every front: Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister and vice-president of the National Conference (NC), on Tuesday said the NC, along with its collation partner Congress, would eliminate terrorism from the Jammu region once they form the next government in J&K.
Abdullah was addressing an election rally in Kishtwar district in support of party candidate Puja Thakur, who is contesting from the Paddar-Nagseni constituency.
Abdullah said: “The Jammu region was made free of militancy during my tenure. Over the past five years, terrorism has revived in Pir Panjal, Chenab Valley, Reasi, Jammu and Kathua district. Soldiers are being targeted in every part of the Jammu region which was freed of terrorism,” he said.
Reacting to the statements by Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that terrorism will return if the NC-Congress alliance comes to power in J&K, Abdullah said people of the region had to bear the brunt of their (BJP) lapses, which brought back terrorism to the peaceful Jammu region.
“The BJP’s mishandling of the situation led to the revival of terrorism in otherwise peaceful Jammu,” he said.
He said the BJP government had failed on every front and had not been able to do any good for the people of J&K. The people for J&K waited for 10 long years for the Assembly elections and the time has come to show the door to the BJP, which is directly or indirectly in power in the UT.
He said the ‘double-engine’ government of the BJP had only increased the problems of people and had become a main reason of disappointment for different sections of society. Abdullah assured the people that the NC-Congress coalition government will fulfil all its promises.
Omar’s sons take part in roadshow
In Jammu, Zahir and Zamir, sons of Omar Abdullah, took part in a roadshow by NC candidate Ajay Sadhotra who filed nomination papers as a party candidate from the Jammu North seat. He held a roadshow from Paloura to Janipur before filing the papers. NC workers also accompanied the cavalcade.
