BJP flays AAP’s anti-cracker campaign
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused the AAP government of attempting to undermine the sanatan tradition of lighting firecrackers during Diwali under the guise of pollution concerns.

“Once again, the Delhi government’s conspiracy to defame our traditions has failed,” Sachdeva stated, referencing the air quality data from the morning after Diwali. He noted that the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded on November 1 was lower than the AQI on Diwali day in both 2022 and 2023.
Despite a vigorous campaign against firecrackers led by Environment Minister Gopal Rai, which included a ban on their use, Sachdeva claimed that residents of Delhi largely ignored the restrictions. “When Delhi residents woke up this morning, the air quality was better than usual, with the AQI between 4 am and 9 am lower than Wednesday,” he remarked.
Sachdeva emphasised the main contributors to winter pollution in Delhi were stubble burning in Punjab and dust from unpaved roads, rather than firecrackers.
