The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to field candidates in all 50 wards of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, which goes to the polls on February 14. The party could find candidates for 49 seats, who have filed their nominations for the elections.

While 33 candidates of the party filed their nominations today, 16 did so a day before. The party was unable to field its candidate from ward number 33. Among those who filed their nominations today included former councillor Arun Sharma and Sahibee Anand.

The candidates were led by senior BJP leader KD Bhandari.

Bhandari claimed that nomination for ward number 33 could not be filed as their candidate Paramjit Kaur had to attend some marriage function. He said it was for the first time that the party would be contesting the MC elections on its own and added that they would start the poll campaign vigorously tomorrow.

When asked why the candidates had put up their election posters without the party symbol, Bhandari said candidates would contest the elections on the party symbol, lotus, and added that the party would provide all elections material to the candidates.
