BJP criticises Congress govt for ‘poor governance’
Bikram Thakur, former minister, criticised the Congress-led government in the state, claiming it had failed on all fronts during its two years in power. Speaking at a gathering, Thakur asserted that the government’s performance had brought distress to both rich and poor residents as the progress had failed to deliver on its 2022 election promises.
Thakur announced that the BJP would organise a protest rally at Gandhi Chowk to condemn what he called the government’s wasteful spending. He challenged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to outline any tangible benefits his government had provided to the people.
The former minister highlighted controversial decisions such as the “toilet tax” and the CID’s “Samosa Investigation”, which he said tarnished the state’s reputation. He also pointed out financial mismanagement under the Congress government, citing a High Court order to attach state properties to settle dues and close 18 tourism corporation units due to poor finances.
Thakur criticised the discontinuation of welfare programs like Him Care, Old Age Pension, Sahara Yojna, and Janmanch, which he said had provided crucial support to citizens. He also alleged that the government’s new taxes burdened the public while halting developmental projects initiated by the BJP-led government under Jai Ram Thakur.
Accusing the government of colluding with the mining mafia, Thakur stated that illegal mining had flourished under the Congress regime. He vowed to hold the government accountable for its alleged failures.
The event was attended by BJP leaders, including MLA Ashish Sharma, former MLAs Dr. Anil Dhiman, Kamlesh Kumari, and other senior members.
