Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said that it was necessary to remove the BJP and Congress parties from power to save reservation as these parties and their alliance partners were anti-reservation parties.

She said that both the parties were conspiring to end reservation.

“Honourable Supreme Court gave a verdict in August 2024 holding that states are constitutionally empowered to make sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The BJP government at the centre, the Congress and other political parties should have advocated properly in the court against the judgment, which they did not,” alleged former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati.

The BSP leader was addressing an election rally in Chhachhrauli town of Jagadhri Assembly constituency to seek votes for Darshan Lal Khera, who is contesting the Assembly election on INLD-BSP alliance ticket.

Alliance candidates Dilbag Singh from Yamunanagar Assembly constituency, Dharam Pal Tigra from Raduar Assembly constituency and Brijpal Chhappar from Sadhaura Assembly constituency were also present in the rally.

Mayawati said that after the judgment of the Supreme Court, the BJP government at the Centre with the help of Congress and other political parties should have amended the Constitution calling a special session of the Parliament, but they didn’t do so, showing their intention against reservation.

She added state governments would make the reservation ineffective, which had been given to SCs and STs to address educational, social and economic disparity.

“The task of sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, now left to the state governments for political gains, will divide these classes/communities and make them fight among themselves,” Mayawati said.

She added that now those political parties would follow the policy of divide and rule.

“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went abroad and announced that all reservations will be abolished in the coming times. This clearly shows that your reservation is in great danger,” Mayawati said.

She added that keeping this in mind, a government of BSP and INLD was necessary in the state.

Mayawati further said if any other government came in the state, reservation would be tampered with and an attempt would be made to end it.
