Biting cold, fog disrupt normal life in Amritsar; trains cancelled, delayed
Amritsar, January 24
Amidst intense cold and foggy conditions, several trains were cancelled and many were running behind scheduled time.
Amritsar-Nanded Sachkhand Express, which departs from the local railway station at 5:30 am, and Amritsar-Bilaspur-Chhattisgarh Express, that leaves railway station at 4:10 pm, were cancelled for today and tomorrow. The Amritsar-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus train (CSMT) was also cancelled today.
New Delhi-Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi Express arrived 27 minutes late behind its schedule time at 1:57 pm at the Amritsar railway station.
Thick cover of fog disrupted schedule of several buses as visibility was low in the morning. Commuters also faced trouble while driving on roads. To escape shivering cold, people gathered around bonfires on roadsides to keep themselves warm.
Footfall of passengers at the railway station was low today. Vendors said only those people ventured out, who had important work, while others avoided travel in the biting cold.
