Bishop Cotton boys shine at football tourney

Bishop Cotton School (BCS) won the 12th Bishop George Edward Lynch Annual Football Tournament by defeating Pinegrove School.
The BCS won the final match that ended in a penalty shootout after the score tied at 2-2. The BCS team missed only one of the four penalties to beat their opponents in the finals.
The match was a triumph for the BCS football coach, Gurprit Singh, as the school won the tournament for the ninth consecutive time. A total of nine school football teams from across India, including Lawrence School, Sanawar, Daly College (Indore), La Martiniere (Lucknow), Yadavindra Public School (Mohali) and Army Public School (Dagshai).
The Director of BCS, Simon Weale, said, “The growth of football in India suggests that one day the quality of India’s football will match cricket here.
It was a pleasure to welcome our fellow boarding schools to this exciting event and we are thrilled that our boys managed to to win the tournament.” The BCS will now travel to Mayo College and Sanawar for the final two tournaments of the season.
