Bhuntar nagar panchayat chief loses trust vote

Bhuntar nagar panchayat president Meena Thakur stepped down from her post today after four of the seven councillors moved a no-confidence motion against her.

Kullu SDM Vikas Shukla said at a meeting of the councillors regarding the no-confidence motion, only the four who had moved the motion were present.

He said, “The election to the post of president will be held after getting permission from the government, for which maximum period is 15 days.”

The post of nagar panchayat president was reserved for a woman.

Meena Thakur was elected president unopposed in January 2021. Vice-president Ajay Kishore and councillors Ravindra Dogra, Dinesh Sharma and Pawan Kumar had moved the no-confidence motion against the president.
