The poor condition of a street at a locality in Bhiwani.

The residents submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harshit Kumar demanding road construction, laying of new sewerage line and repair of drains in Lohar Bazaar and Kumharon Ki Gali in the ward.

Vishal, a resident of the locality, said the main street of the locality had not been reconstructed for the last 10 years. As a result, the condition of roads had gone from bad to worse due to leakage in the sewerage lines as the stagnant water had further deteriorated the conditions of the road. He said despite complaining to the Municipal Council and officials concerned several times, their problems were not redressed by the officials. “We have also taken up the issues during the open camp organised in April this year.

The residents said in October 2023, the Junior Engineer of the Municipal Council had visited the locality and promised to carry out the repair works. But the work did not start, he said, adding that the later the SDO of the Public Health Department also assured the residents that sewerage line would be repaired. Due to the sewerage leakage and seepage of water in the walls of the houses, cracks had developed in the houses.

Furthermore, there was no arrangement for collection of the garbage from the houses in their locality.

“The locality has a narrow street thus the bigger vehicle which goes for garbage collection cannot enter the street. So there is also a need for rickshaws, which can collect garbage from the street,” he said.

In the memorandum, the residents urged the administration to ensure that the street is cemented as soon as possible, drains repaired, laying of new sewerage line and arrangement of rickshaws for collecting garbage. The ADC assured the residents that he had directed the officials concerned and the work would start soon.
