Raikot, September 1

A protest launched by a farmer’s family of Changli village (victim of a travel agent) in the home constituency of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at Brahampur village in Ludhiana district received a shot in the arm when social media influencer Bhanna Sidhu visited the venue of dharna to announce his support.

Sidhu announced that all crops sown by the accused travel agent Harvinder Singh in his fields would be harvested and the amount realised by selling it would be used to compensate the victim family till the last penny is paid back.

Addressing a dharna organised in favour of Changli family led by Bhola Singh and his son Jaipal Singh, Sidhu alleged that the state government had failed to protect the interests of educated youth who have been persistently exploited by unauthorised travel agents like Harvinder Singh who was booked for cheating the Changli family on the pretext of sending Jaipal Singh to Canada after marrying his (Harvinder Singh’s) daughter.

A perusal of records revealed that Harvinder Singh had given a written statement in a Sangrur court regarding assurance to pay the Changli family an amount of Rs 13 lakh in two installments.

Bhola Singh and Jaipal Singh too had given their consent in court as Harvinder Singh had agreed to pay back a part of money swindled from them on the pretext of sending Jaipal Singh to Canada.

Though the Changli family had been visiting Brahampur to protest against Harvinder Singh for many days, the situation became tense when the Changli family sat atop a water tank early in the morning today and the protesters announced that Bhanna Sidhu would be addressing the dharna in the afternoon.

The police force led by DSP, Raikot, Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa increased vigil at the village to avoid any untoward situation.
