The second day of the 65th Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival of Punjab University was filled with joy and celebration at DAV College, Hoshiarpur. In addition to traditional performances such as Bhangra, Gidda and various instrumental music categories (both percussion and non-percussion), participants from over 200 colleges across 14 zones gathered to showcase their talent in off-stage competitions, including on-the-spot painting, photography, collage making, clay modelling, cartooning, still life drawing and poster making, among others.

The morning session featured Brahm Shankar Jimpa, MLA and former minister, as the chief guest. Jimpa emphasised the importance of youth festivals in fostering personal growth and urged students to look beyond the outcome of competitions, focusing instead on learning and self-improvement. He also praised the students for their talents.

The day’s cultural performances left the audience in awe, with the dancers performing the traditional Gidda, bringing the stage alive with rhythmic ‘Boliyan.’ The energy of the Bhangra performance, accompanied by drum beats and Punjabi folk songs, had everyone tapping their feet. Additionally, the participants’ artwork vividly portrayed various aspects of life, showcasing their creativity and skill.

In the evening session, prizes were awarded by the chief guest, Vijay Sampla, former chairman of the National SC Commission, along with Dr Rohit Sharma, the director of youth welfare at Punjab University, Dr Anoop Kumar, the president of DAVCMC, and Dr Vinay Kumar, the principal of DAV College.

In the Gidda competition, DAV College, Chandigarh secured the top spot. They were followed by Government College for Girls, Rakk Bagh, in second place. The third place was jointly secured by Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur and Maharaja Ranjit Singh College, Malot.
