BFI selects 3 LBA trainees for Dubai exposure trip
The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) selected three talented trainees from the Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) for a week-long ‘exposure trip’ for U-19 players to Dubai. The selected girl trainees are Nadar Kaur Dhillon, Kishanpreet Kaur Mangat and Komalpreet Kaur Cheema.
These players were selected at the conclusion of the National Coaching Camp, organised by the BFI from October 15 to November 8 for the preparation for this exposure trip, at Chennai
However, in a surprising turn of events, one of three trainees namely Komalpreet Kaur Cheema who is U-18 years, was denied travel permission by the authorities at Delhi airport citing the guidelines that a minor player requires parental consent and accompaniment (rule came in force, recently) for the international travel. “We cannot compromise on safety and welfare protocols, the authorities said.
Saloni, coach at the LBA, who was also selected by the BFI to accompany the trainees to Dubai, is not going to Dubai. She cited unavoidable local basketball commitments as the reason for her withdrawal.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal, honorary general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association , said the exposure tour would provide valuable experience for our young players, helping them develop their skills and adapt to international competition. “This opportunity would definitely enhance their confidence and prepare them for future national and international tournaments,” he said.
