‘Better rail service to Kangra can boost religious tourism’

Expressing concern over the ongoing development works in Dharamsala and the demand of Rs 30 crore to be deposited for the Central University campus, Rajiv Bhardwaj, Member of Parliament Kangra, said he would soon meet Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The MP said he would ask him to clarify the situation or find a way out to collaborate with the Central Government.

The MP also enquired about the development of the railway line which, he strongly felt, would reinforce religious tourism. He opined that the three Shaktipeeths and Sidhpeeths at Jwalamukhi, Bajreshwari and Chamunda in Kangra district would draw a lot of pilgrims if the broad-gauge line at Daulatpur Chowk reaches the district paving the way for Vande Bharat train. He also laid emphasis on running the Pathankot-Jogindernagar railway line smoothly which was of great significance to the people of the district. According to him, a comprehensive plan was needed for the promotion of water sports and tourism in Pong Dam of Kangra district.

Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj said that he would talk to the Chief Minister very shortly regarding release of funds worth Rs 30 crore for the construction of the Central University complex at Dharamsala. He was speaking at a meeting organised by Jan Chetna, an organisation working for the welfare of residents of the town. SC Dhiman, president of the organisation, apprised the MP of the various issues faced by people in Dharamsala.
