Better livestock healthcare facilities soon in Zanskar
Dr Iftiqar Hussain, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Ladakh, began his three-day visit to Zanskar sub division with the primary objective of interacting with local farmers and herders and gaining first-hand knowledge of the challenges they face in the region.
During his interactions, Dr Iftiqar emphasised that the department will explore all opportunities to provide better livestock healthcare services and facilities to local farmers. He highlighted the potential of new technologies, such as mobile veterinary clinics, to revolutionise livestock healthcare service and revive livestock rearing in remote areas like Zanskar.
Dr Iftiqar was welcomed by village representatives, stakeholders, and farmers during his visit to Zangla and Stonday villages. He sought their support for livestock development and exploring the region’s potential for livestock rearing. The villagers presented demands, including provisions for livestock shelters, to which Dr Iftiqar assured that the UT Administration and department are working tirelessly to address grievances and ensure equitable regional development.
Later, Dr Iftiqar met Zanaskar SDM Romil Singh Donk, IAS, and engaged in an in-depth discussion on issues faced by local herders.
