Mohali, January 5
The Punjab Youth Development Board (PYDB) is committed towards development and welfare of the youth of the state and it will launch the “Youth of Punjab Campaign” on January 7.
This was stated by Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, chairman, PYDB, while releasing the phamplet/brochure of the campaign at the board’s office in Mohali on Monday.
Sukhwinder Singh Bindra said Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh would launch the campaign from Ludhiana, which would be followed by district-wise distribution of sports kits in consultation with local Deputy Commissioners as well as District Coordinators of the Youth Welfare Services. Under the campaign, sports kits would be distributed among all active rural sports clubs state-wide.
Bindra said: “Five best performing youth clubs of Mohali district have been selected. These clubs will be felicitated and handed over sports kits by the Punjab Chief Minister during the launch ceremony of the campaign. Each kit includes cricket, volleyball and football equipment in a quantity sufficient to cater to about 50-70 players”.
Bindra said the aim of the campaign was to wean away youth from drugs, encourage sports culture in the youth as well as to channelise their energy in positive direction.
The PYDB chairman hoped that those budding players who were not so fortunate to afford personal sports infrastructure or had no access to sports equipment would avail maximum benefit out of the sports kits being provided to the rural youth clubs.
