The Pangi Valley Beopar Mandal has urged the local administration to impose a ban on the movement of cargo and passenger vehicles on the Mall Road in Killar town, the subdivisional headquarters of Pangi in Chamba district.

Beopar Mandal president Ashok Thakur said traders of Killar under the banner of Beopar Mandal held a meeting recently and unanimously passed a resolution urging the administration to ban the movement of all kind of vehicles through Mall Road from 8am to 6pm, except emergency vehicles like ambulance, police vehicles and fire brigade.

He said the local traders had also raised their concerns about traders and vendors from outside entering Pangi without registration, urging the administration to prohibit their entry.

Thakur said the influx of traders from outside has significantly affected local businesses, with these traders selling goods at heavily discounted rates, causing financial loss to the local shopkeepers.

Other issues, including the formation of women’s groups and self-help groups to promote self-reliance among the local population, were also discussed.

Additionally, the association demanded strict action against unauthorised street vendors operating in the the Killar headquarters area. The meeting also took up the issue of traffic jams caused by haphazard parking of vehicles in the market and surrounding roads.

It was decided that a memorandum would soon be submitted to the Residential Commissioner regarding these issues.
