The Vigilance Bureau sleuths on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a head constable posted as ‘munshi’ (clerk) at the CIA staff in Muktsar, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

An official spokesperson of the state vigilance bureau informed that the arrest was made following a complaint by a woman resident of Muktsar.

“As per the complaint, head constable Satnam Singh threatened the complainant that her son was using a stolen mobile phone and demanded Rs 50,000 from her to settle the matter. Although she had handed over a bill and box of the phone purchased by her son to Satnam, he took Rs 8,000 from her and demanded Rs 5,000 more for not involving her son in this stolen phone case,” the official said.

He added that the complainant had recorded the head constable’s conversation for demanding the bribe and approached the vigilance bureau officers for assistance.

“A trap was laid and head constable Satnam Singh was arrested red-handed, while he was accepting the second instalment of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses,” the official claimed.
