Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday completed his 10-day religious punishment by performing ‘sewa’ for the second consecutive day at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Muktsar town.

After completing the punishment, Sukhbir is expected to perform 'ardas' (Sikh prayer) at the Akal Takht on Friday.

Sukhbir, due to his fractured foot, sat on a wheelchair at the entrance of the gurdwara as a ‘sewadar’ (security guard), while wearing a blue robe, a plaque of Gurbani verses around his neck and holding a spear in his hand.

He was surrounded by a large number of security personnel and party workers. Notably, an assassination bid was made on him in the Golden Temple Complex in Amritsar on the second day of his ongoing punishment on December 4.

Several Akali leaders, including Sukhbir, party’s acting president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, ex-ministers Daljit Singh Cheema, Sucha Singh Langah, Heera Singh Gabria and Gulzar Singh Ranike performed the ‘sewa’ of cleaning utensils in the ‘langar’ (community kitchen) hall as well. They also listened to ‘kirtan’ for an hour here.

Notably, the five Sikh high priests had pronounced ‘tankhah’ for Sukhbir and other SAD leaders on December 2 at the Akal Takht in Amritsar.

Earlier, Sukhbir has earlier performed ‘sewa’ at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib and Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo for two days each.
