The last rites of farmer Shubhakaran, who died at Khanauri border on February 21, were performed at his village Balloh in Bathinda on Thursday. A large number of farmers were present.

Farm leaders Sarwan Pandher and Jagjit Dallewal, who attended the funeral, said prayers would be organised for Shubhakaran on March 3. Regarding the Delhi march, he said it was not the right platform to talk about it. At present, farmers are staying put at Shambhu and Khanauri.

Dallewal said Shubhakaran had sacrificed his life for the sake of farmers. Under pressure from farmers, the government declared Shubhakaran a martyr.

After the post-mortem examination of Shubhkaran Singh (22), a farmer who died on February 21 at the Khanauri border, the body was today brought to Khanauri from Patiala by leaders of “Dilli Chalo” morcha in a cavalcade.

The body was received by a large number of farmers camping at the Khanauri border. They raised slogans in favour of the stir.

Farmers and their leaders paid tributes to Shubhkaran.

After keeping the body of Shubhkaran for about an hour at the Khanauri border, it was taken to his native Balloh village in Bathinda district for cremation.
