In view of the upcoming MC elections in Punjab, the police of Punjab and Rajasthan jointly took a major action against bootleggers and smugglers of illegal liquor.

With the help of the Excise Department, officials carried out a special operation on the banks of Gang Canal in the area bordering Rajasthan. The officials seized 40,000 litres of ‘lahan’ (raw liquor) that had been packed in 40 tarpaulins — the same was destroyed on the spot. Besides, 76,000 litres of illegal liquor was found dumped in pits dug near the canal while 7,000 litres was packed in 35 tin sheet drums. A total of 1,23,000 litres of unclaimed liquor was seized. The teams destroyed it on the spot.

The officials said a large shipment of liquor was stopped. The administration appealed to the people to inform the police and the Excise Department about the persons involved in the illegal trade of liquor so that appropriate action could be taken against the smugglers.
