Bathinda, December 17

BJP activists on Tuesday staged a protest against the state government and burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh over his stand against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Talking to the mediapersons after their protest at the Fire Brigade Chowk here, BJP leaders Vinod Binta and Ashok Ballianwali said they strongly condemned the Chief Minister for opposing the CAA and announcing that it would not be implemented in the state.

They said the CAA was aimed at granting citizenship to the persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries and therefore it should be implemented across the state. The CAA would facilitate citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Christians, Parsi and Buddhist immigrants from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and the state government could not deprive them of the same, they said. “We will continue to protest against the Congress regime till it agrees to implement the law in the state,” they said. The protesters also raised slogans against the Chief Minister.
