BAJA SAEINDIA virtual event starts at Chitkara University
Hundreds of mechatonics engineering students from across the nation are participating in the second phase of the BAJA SAEINDIA virtual event which started today. It is being organised by Chitkara University to present static events such as sales, cost and design evaluation, along with sustainability event and an engine simulation.
As many as 20 teams will participate in the second phase, which has two division first incorporate virtual dynamic events with the help of simulation-based model. It helps a team replicate a real vehicle in a virtual environment and know how it will perform on ground. The teams will also undertake a comprehensive process of conceptualising, designing, modelling, analysing, manufacturing, validating and competing with a single-seater ATV (all-terrain vehicle) in a four-hour endurance test.
“It takes one year to complete a project. A ‘buggy’ costs around Rs 7 to 10 lakh, and is majorly sponsored by universities. A team consists of 25-30 students, depending upon the specifications of a vehicle,” said Naman, a student of the host university. He further added that, “During this phase, there will be virtual testing before transporting the vehicle to the competition venue in January 2025. Basically, the chasis and weight of the vehicle is an important dynamic to concentrate upon. Thereafter, we move to suspension and roll cage to streamline things in the software.
At virtual testing the design is finalised and tested. The brakes of the vehicles are worked upon, considering how much the vehicle is weighing. This vehicle can be used by off-roading lovers, Army personnel at remote postings, youngsters who love adventure and many others. Coming to the technical part, the prototype then gets tested using a software through a 3D project and later at the IPG Car Maker for the final approval.
Meanwhile, Balraj Subramaniam, chairman, organising committee, BAJA SAEINDIA, along with Dr Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor at Chitkara University, addressed the students on the occasion.
