The Public Works Department (PWD) today decided to install a bailey bridge adjacent to a road bridge that was damaged due to flashfloods in the Swan river in Rampur village of Una district on August 19.

The pillars of the bridge connecting Una district headquarters to Santoshgarh were damaged and as a result, one of its spans had sunk at least one foot. A team of engineers led by PWD Chief Engineer Vijay Chaudhary, Design Engineer Dev Anand, Superintending Engineer of the Una PWD Circle Harsh Puri and Executive Engineer Kuldip Singh visited the site of the damaged bridge. They decided that since the work to repair the damaged bridge could not be initiated during the monsoon season and road connectivity was needed immediately, a bailey bridge be installed adjacent to the damaged structure.

The Superintending Engineer said a bailey bridge measuring 160 feet in length would be installed to enable vehicles to cross the river. He added that all types of vehicles, including heavy ones, would be able to cross the bridge.
