The Police Department yesterday confirmed that Baddi SP Ilma Afroz had proceeded on 15-day leave to attend to her ailing mother, ending speculation over her abrupt departure.

While formally confirming the 2018 batch IPS officer’s long leave for the first time, the department in a press note issued here stated that there was no need for speculation in this regard. Even as social media was rife with speculation about the reasons for Ilma’s sudden long leave, it was for the first time that the Police Department came on record stating that she had been sanctioned 15-day earned leave from November 7 to 21. The department said a 2007 Himachal Police Service officer, Vinod Kumar, at present posted as Commandant of 8th Battalion, Home Guards in Chamba, had been temporarily posted to oversee the police operations in Baddi until Ilma resumes her duties on return from leave.

The high court had in a case pertaining to the functioning of the Baddi police directed the government that Ilma should not be transferred out without the knowledge of the court. There has been buzz about Ilma being made to proceed on leave following her tiff with a local leader.
