Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have roped in former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene as their head coach as part of a major overhaul ahead of mega auction. Jayawardene had a similar role with the franchise from 2017-2022 and oversaw their title-winning campaigns in 2017, 2019 and 2020-21.

Yuvraj finishes as top Indian at T-13 in Macao Open
Yuvraj Sandhu registered another fine result as the Indian finished in tied-13th place at the Macao Open. He totaled 10-under 270 to finish as the top Indian. Ajeetesh Sandhu (71-67-70-66) was 6-under and finished T-29th, while Saptak Talwar (70-68-72-68) and Khalin Joshi (68-72-70-68) were both 2-under for the week and tied for T-42nd place. SSP Chawrasia (69-68-69-74) finished at even par and was T-50th.

Aditi finishes tied-55th as Ruoning wins Buick title
India’s Aditi Ashok dropped three bogeys in a row early in the final round and carded a 3-over 75 to finish tied-55th in the LPGA Buick Shanghai tournament. She had a total of 1-under. China’s Ruoning Yin shot an 8-under 64 to win the tournament.

Babar dropped for Tests against England
Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam was dropped, while pace duo Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah opted to withdraw from the remaining two Tests against England. This is the first time that Babar has been “rested” from the red-ball side in his 54-Test career. Babar has struggled with poor form in Test matches, and is yet to score a half-century in his last 18 innings.

Chepngetich smashes women’s marathon record
Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich obliterated the women’s marathon world record, lopping nearly two minutes off the previous best to win in an unofficial time of two hours, nine minutes and 57 seconds. Chepngetich claimed her third title in Chicago and break Ethiopian Tigst Assefa’s previous record of 2:11:53, set last year.

Boxer Beterbiev crowned undisputed world champion
Russian-born Canadian Artur Beterbiev was crowned boxing’s undisputed light-heavyweight world champion after beating Russian rival Dmitry Bivol on a majority points decision. Both were previously undefeated, with 33-year-old Bivol holding the WBA belt and Beterbiev, 39, the reigning WBC, WBO and IBF champion. The clash put the four recognised major belts in the hands of one man for the first time.
