In view of the increasing cases of dengue and malaria in Jind district, the Health Department officials launched an awareness campaign in several localities of Jind town today and collected blood samples of 19 persons suffering from fever.

As many as 58 cases of dengue and four cases of malaria have been reported in Jind district, with 20 cases of dengue reported from Jind town alone. The teams of the Health Department today visited Housing Board, Saini Mohalla, Roop Nagar, Sant Nagar and many other colonies. They also collected the blood samples of 19 fever-affected people for conducting tests of dengue and malaria.

Health inspector Ram Mehar Verma said that on the directions of the civil surgeon Dr Gopal Goyal, the teams of the health workers conducted door-to-door surveys and met people and interacted with them to know their awareness regarding the prevention of diseases occurring in the current season. “Weather is favourable for the breeding of mosquitoes causing dengue and malaria. So there is a need to keep the surroundings clean to prevent their breeding,” he said, while informing people not to let dirty water accumulate in pits, empty tyres and pots and also to keep water vessels covered. Verma said that flower vases, water vessels for animals and birds and coolers must be dried once a week to prevent spread of diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and jaundice apart from dengue, malaria and chikungunya.

The health inspector said that the person should be immediately taken to the nearest health centre or health worker if there is high fever with chills and shivering every alternate day, vomiting, feeling hot, vomiting and diarrhoea, weakness in the body. The patient should be immediately taken to the nearest health centre or health worker and treated only after getting the blood tested. He said that diseases can be controlled only through awareness and by keeping one’s house and surroundings clean.
