Despite the efforts made by traffic police to alleviate traffic congestion in the city, recurring traffic jams near the bus stand continue to plague commuters. The primary culprit behind these disruptions is the ubiquitous presence of auto-rickshaws, which obstructs the main road.

Auto-rickshaw drivers can be seen standing everywhere, competing with each other to pick passengers. This not only blocks the main road but also hinders the flow of traffic. Commuters lament that the entire traffic moves at a snail’s pace due to the presence of auto-rickshaws.

Residents suggest that auto-rickshaw drivers should be restricted to their designated lane, allowing general traffic to pass without hindrance. Balwant Singh, a local resident, described the experience of passing through this stretch as a nightmare. Despite the presence of traffic cops, the situation remains unchanged.

Residents emphasise that the only solution to this problem is to ensure that auto-rickshaws use only the lane earmarked for them. Harnam Singh, another resident, suggested that taking action against drivers who cause unnecessary disruptions in traffic flow, would be beneficial.

He demanded that the traffic police must take strict measures to enforce lane discipline among auto-rickshaw drivers.

The residents appealed to the authorities to take immediate action to address the issue. “We urge the traffic police to take strict measures to enforce lane discipline among auto-rickshaw drivers. This is the only way to ensure smooth flow of traffic and prevent accidents,” said Kuljeet Singh.

The traffic police must adopt a proactive approach to address the issue and ensure that commuters have a safe and hassle-free journey. Even as traffic congestion outside the bus stand and near Hussainpura chowk is a frequent occurrence as both the points are favourite pick-up points for auto-rickshaw drivers, the intensity of the chaos increases during the morning and evening hours as people head for their workplace and then back home.
