Atishi accuses Central Govt of deleting voters’ names from list
Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday accused the Central Government of manipulating voter lists ahead of the Assembly elections in Delhi.
She alleged that the Sub-Divisional Magistrates are directing officials to erase traditional AAP voters from voter rolls, calling it a blatant misuse of power. “Officials facing pressure must report it; strict action will follow,” she vowed.
“The Central Government has started deleting Delhiites’ votes on a large scale through the official machinery,” she added.
“This is a conspiracy,” the CM said. “The first step was the transfer of 29 SDMs and ADMs on October 28. Under the GNCTD Amendment Act, the transfer and posting of officials in Delhi are in the hands of the Central Government through the Lieutenant-Governor. On October 28, 29 SDMs and ADMs were transferred, and afterwards, officials were ordered to delete votes on a large scale,” she alleged.
She further alleged that in the past few days, several booth-level officers (BLOs), including Asha workers, anganwadi workers and government school teachers, have contacted the AAP and reported that they were being pressurised to delete votes on a large scale.
“One District Magistrate (DM), overseeing seven constituencies, provided a list of 20,000 voters from each constituency to every Assistant Electoral Roll Officer (AERO). These names were reportedly gathered through a particular political party’s apparatus and sent to the Central Government. The government is pressuring officials to remove these names from the voter list,” she claimed.
She further said an SDM called all his BLOs into the office and gave directions to delete voters on a large scale who support the AAP.
She added, “They know that they are losing in Delhi, and they have no way of winning elections other than misusing the Central Government.”
