New Delhi, July 7

The Sikh community inaugurated the newly renovated “Asth Ghat” for the immersion of ashes in the Capital on Sunday. Located at Gurdwara Majnu ka Tilla on the banks of the Yamuna, the project is fully financed by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney from Punjab and executed under the auspices of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

Sahney emphasised that the “Asth Ghat” serves not only the Sikh community but also as an amenity for all residents of Delhi. The ghat includes well-maintained pathways, planters, greenery, water filtration plant for the Yamuna and spiritual music. It also features an “ardas hall” designed for the smooth and respectful immersion of ashes.

As a philanthropist, Sahney shared his personal motivation for the project, recalling his emotional visit to the ghat a few years ago to perform his mother’s last rites. Witnessing its neglected state then, he resolved to restore the ghat to its deserved dignity and tranquillity.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by community members and families who had eagerly awaited the ghat’s renovation. Notable figures present included DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka, former MP Tarlochan Singh, and DSGMC general secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon.
