Individuals who have completed 18 years of age and are not yet registered as voter can apply for it till September 2.

Deputy Commissioner-cum- District Election Officer Yash Garg said the opportunity allowed new voters to ensure their names were added to the photo voters’ list.

Garg said applications for voter registration would be accepted until September 2, 10 days before the final date for filing of nomination papers for the Haryana Assembly Elections-2024. The deadline had been set to ensure that all new eligible voters were included in the voters’ list. He said the Election Commission aimed to encourage participation of all eligible individuals to strengthen democracy.

The poll official said the district administration was making concerted efforts to register all eligible persons, with a particular focus on engaging the youth. He said following the Election Commission of India’s declaration of the Haryana Legislative Assembly poll on August 16, the notification would be issued on September 5.

The process for filing nomination papers will commence immediately after the notification is issued and will continue till September 12. Interested candidates can submit their nomination papers at the office of their respective returning officers between 11 am and 3 pm on the designated dates.

Garg said the scrutiny of nomination papers would take place on September 13, and candidates would be able to withdraw their nomination papers by September 16.

Voting is scheduled for October 1, and the result will be announced on October 4. The election process will conclude by October 6.

Garg also pointed out that the security deposit for candidates was fixed at Rs 10,000 for general category candidates and Rs 5,000 for those belonging to Scheduled Castes.

Cops hold flag marches

The police department, along with the CISF, today took out flag marches in the district in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Himadri Kaushik said the code of conduct was in force throughout the state and all police officials had been instructed to ensure its compliance. She said the police had formed 12 static surveillance teams in the district to keep vigil in their respective areas. The police had also set up eight interstate border checkposts to ensure there was no cross-border liquor smuggling.

She said a flag march was taken out in Raipur Rani and its adjoining areas, and another in Pinjore and Kalka.

The DCP said the purpose was to create a sense of security among the general public, so that they could cast their vote fearlessly. She said, “During the flag march, the police motivated people to participate in the election process without any fear.”

She said the police had prepared a complete framework to conduct fair and independent elections. The police had made strong security arrangements at all sensitive polling stations.
