Assembly poll: Congress leaders file pleas in high court, challenge BJP win
At least five Congress leaders, including state president Udai Bhan and former minister Karan Dalal, have filed election petitions in the high court, challenging the victory of BJP candidates in the recent Haryana Assembly elections. The Congress has been alleging EVM tampering and misuse of power by the BJP.
Bhan alleged that state incharge Deepak Babaria had received a message about EVM tampering in 14 seats before the start of counting on October 8. He even shared the concerned WhatsApp message with the media concerning 14 seats: Kalka, Gharaunda, Assandh, Rai, Kharkhauda, Safidon, Uchana Kalan, Badhra, Dadri, Mahendragarh, Hodal, Badkhal, Gohana, and Narwana.
Talking to The Tribune, Bhan said, “As per my information, Vijay Pratap Singh (Badkhal), Lakhan Kumar Singla (Faridabad) and Karan Dalal (Palwal) have also filed the petitions. There could be more leaders, too. They have taken separate grounds to challenge the elections.”
He added, “I have taken the ground how religion was used, voters were lured, and EVMs showed 99 per cent battery charge. The vote percentage being enhanced in my constituency is also one of the grounds.”
CM Nayab Singh Saini had held a press conference after polling, claiming that all arrangements had been made to ensure victory, he further claimed.
Bhan had lost from the Hodal constituency in a closely contested election by a margin of 2,595 votes.
