Asha workers protest over pay pending for 4 months in Tarn Taran

Asha workers and facilitators working in the Civil Hospital, Patti, under the banner of the district unit of the Asha Workers and Facilitators’ Union, Punjab, on Tuesday organised a protest outside the office of the Civil Surgeon against the non-payment of their monthly remuneration for the last four months.

The union leaders presented a memorandum of demands to Civil Surgeon Dr Gurpreet Singh Rai. While addressing on the occasion, Lakhwinder Kaur, district president of the union, and other leaders condemned the government for not paying them their monthly contribution of Rs 2,500 per month since December.

They said they were not being paid telephone allowance to recharge their mobile connections as a result of which they were facing hardships in performing their duties. The department had not given them their uniform allowance. They were not even paid for the pulse polio duties performed by them. They warned that in case their dues were not paid to them soon, the union would be forced to intensify its agitation.
