As farmers begin protests, V-P Dhankhar appeals for dialogue: My doors open 24X7
Ahead of farmers’ protest from Noida to New Delhi today, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar reached out to the agitating segment and said his doors were always open for them.
Dhankhar appealed to farmers involved in any form of protests to resolve their issues through discussion and dialogue.
In his address on Sunday, marking the 138th birth anniversary of Raja Mahendra Pratap, the Vice-President said, “We must remember that we don’t fight with our own, we don’t deceive our own. Deception is for the enemy, while our own are to be embraced. How can one sleep peacefully when farmers’ issues are not being resolved swiftly? I am pleased that Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan has already held discussions, and we are actively working on it. I appeal to my farmer brothers to understand that in this country, issues are resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.”
Terming an irretrievable and confrontational stance as poor diplomacy, he emphasised, “We need to think openly and engage in open discussions because this country belongs to us. It is deeply influenced by its rural roots, and I believe that wherever my farmer brothers are and whichever protest they may be part of, my words will reach them, and they will pay attention. I am confident that a convergence of positive energy will lead to the swiftest resolution of farmers’ issues.”
Dhankhar said we need to reflect.
”What’s done is done, but the path forward must be the right one. The foundation of a developed India is laid on the land of farmers. The road to a developed India passes through the farmland. The resolution of farmers’ issues must happen at a rapid pace,” he added.
The Vice-President said when farmers are distressed, it casts a blot on the pride and honour of the nation.
”This often happens because we keep concerns close to our hearts without expressing them. On this auspicious day, I pledge that my doors will remain open 24 hours a day to resolve the problems of farmers,” he said.
Dhankhar’s remarks came ahead of the scheduled march Bharatiya Kisan Parishad and other related farmer organizations have called on Monday to demand legal statute for MSP apart from other demands.
BKP leaders have begun their march to Delhi from under the Noida’s Maha Maya flyover.
The Noida police have issued a detailed traffic advisory for the day, anticipating severe traffic congestions.
