Arrangements for cattle at Nahan cowshed reviewed

A meeting of the district-level committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was held on Tuesday at the Bala Sundari Gaushala in Nahan.

Sirmaur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) LR Verma presided over the meeting. He also toured the three sheds at the gaushala, inspected the system for preparing cow urine extract and reviewed the arrangements for 102 cattle that are currently here.

Dr Neeru Shabnam, the vice-chairperson of the SPCA, Nahan, briefed the committee about various programmes being conducted at the gaushala, and the production of cow dung-based items such as logs, earthen lamps for Diwali and planters. The committee expressed satisfaction over initiatives that are aimed at utilising cow dung in an eco-friendly manner.

Committee treasurer Rajendra Bansal presented a financial report, which revealed that in the financial year 2023-24, around Rs 19.5 lakh were spent on the maintenance of the gaushala, while an almost equal income was generated to cover the expenses.

The members of the Bala Sundari Gaushala Committee also requested the ADM to seek financial assistance from the Trilokpur Temple Trust to cover the gaushala’s daily expenses.
