Army soldier killed in ongoing gunfight in south Kashmir’s Anantnag

An Army soldier was killed on Saturday in an ongoing gunfight with militants in south Kashmir.
The gunfight erupted between militants and a joint team of the Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles, police, and CRPF at Watnar village of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The slain Army soldier has been identified as Lance Naik Nasheen, who got injured in the initial firefight. He was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Kokernag where doctors declared him brought dead. Nasheen had received multiple bullet injuries.
Earlier, officials said the gunfight broke out after a cordon and search operation was carried out by security forces to take on militants, believed to be two in number.
The gunfight is under way and more reinforcement is being rushed to the spot.
