Army personnel deployed near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch fired on an quadcopter approaching from other side of the fence on Tuesday morning.

Army men sensed the presence of a quadcopter, which is often referred as drone, coming close to the border fence because of the buzzing sound it made. Shots were fired in the direction of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) after which it presumably went back to the Pakistani side.

However, a search operation was launched in the area to check if the UAV had dumped arms, ammunition or drugs. Quadcopters are often used by Pakistan-based terror outfits to send arms and drugs into the Indian territory. Many such UAVs have been gunned down in different sector of Jammu and Kashmir during the past three years.

Over Ground Workers (OGWs) are informed about the location of the incoming UAVs after which they pick the consignment. Many OGWs have been arrested by the police, while they had come to pick up consignment of drugs and weapons dropped by drones coming from across the LoC.

The activities of terror outfits have increased during the past three years, especially in areas along International Border and LoC. Terrorists, who are residents of J&K but are now living in areas of Pakistan, help these outfits in making contacts on ground, especially in Jammu division.
