Armed assailants killed a 54-year-old man on the Mrar Kalan-Khara link road this morning, while he, along with his son, was going to Chandigarh in a car for his health check-up.

The deceased was later identified as Lakhbir Singh, a farmer of Mrar Kalan village. He was reportedly suffering from hepatitis-C. His son Pyarjeet Singh also suffered injuries on the shoulder.

Sources said when the car reached near the railway crossing on the outskirts of their village, some armed assailants intercepted that and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and killed the man on the spot.
