Welham boys, Doon School win 60th Chuckerbutty Debates

Dehradun, November 13

The 1st Junior English Debating Invitational Competition (JEDI) and the 60th Chuckerbutty Debates were held at The Doon School, Dehradun, here yesterday. Six teams participated in the JEDI while 12 teams took part in the Chuckerbutty Debates.

In the JEDI, The Doon School (with two teams), Unison World School, St Joseph’s Academy, Welham Boys’ School, and the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) participated.

The JEDI showcased talent among junior students of schools across Dehradun and a good standard of debating was seen throughout the competition. The final was held between the RIMC and Welham Boys’ School, in which the latter emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, the 60th Chuckerbutty Debates saw participation of The Doon School (Dehradun), GEMS Modern Academy (Dubai), Genesis World School (Noida), Lawrence School (Sanawar), Mayo College Girls’ School (Ajmer), Rashtriya Indian Military College (Dehradun),The Shri Ram School (Moulsari), St Joseph’s Academy (Dehradun), St George’s College (Mussoorie), Vasant Valley School (New Delhi), Vivek High School (Chandigarh), and Welham Girls’ School (Dehradun).

The debates were conducted in the World Schools Debating Competition format. The Chuckerbutty Debates saw an extremely high standard of debating. The Shri Ram School, Noida, and The Doon School, Dehradun, reached the final of the competition, which was won by The Doon School.

Judges for the final of the Chuckerbutty Debates were: Nazia Yusuf, Harsh Dobhal, Ronjona Bannerjee, Randhir Arora, Jaskiran Chopra, Kapil Rawat and Atul Sethi. The chief guest for the debates was Matthew Raggett, Headmaster of The Doon School.
