The 2nd edition of the SelaQui Invitational Soccer Tournament started at the school today. Headmaster Rashid Sharfuddin inaugurated the tournament.

The participating schools included RIMC, Kasiga, Wynberg Allen, St George College, YPS (Mohali), DPS (Ghaziabad), The Asian School, Indian Public School, Welham Boys’ School, St Joseph’s Academy, Maa Anandmayee School and others.

The inaugural match played between SelaQui International School and Kasiga School ended in a draw. Both teams failed to score a goal.

In the second match, Kendriya Vidyalala, Birpur, defeated YPS, Mohali, 3-2. Rashid Sharfuddin, Headmaster of Selaqui International School, said students did not get enough opportunities to play soccer matches at the school level.

He was committed to providing a platform to young footballers. He said the next edition of the tournament would carry a prize money of Rs 2 lakh and would be open to all public schools of India.

As many as 16 teams from north India are participating in the tournament that carries prize money of Rs 25,000 for the winner and Rs 11,000 for the runners up. The tournament will conclude on Monday.

Welham Boys’ School win aquatic meet

The Doon School hosted The Doon School Aquatic meet in which Welham Boys’ School, Wynberg Allen School, RIMC, Dehradun, Kasiga School, The Asian School and The Doon School participated.

The competition was held in three categories: junior (classes VII and VIII), medium (classes IX and X) and seniors (classes XI and XII).

In the junior category, Vikranth Bhatt from Wynberg Allen School won the best swimmer award. In the medium category, Yougdeep Shokeen from Welham Boys’ School, and in the senior category, Louis Wright from The Doon School, won the best swimmer award.

Wynberg Allen School won in the junior category, Welham Boys’ School won in the medium and senior category. Welham Boys’ School emerged as the overall winner and Wynberg Allen School runners-up.
