Ajay beats Sukhpreet in title race

Ajay Singh continued his winning streak as he humbled Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje in straight sets to clinch the boys’ U-14 title in the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today.

Both players started off aggressively as they wanted to gain an early advantage. However, it was Ajay Singh who held his composure in the tie-breaker to go ahead 7-6(7). 

Buoyed by a hard-fought win in the opening set, Ajay demolished Sukhpreet in the second set to 6-2 to clinch the title.

The girls’ U-14 title went to Nimrat Kaur Atwal, who registered a comfortable 6-4 6-2 win over Suryanshi Tanwar in the final. 

In the boys’ U-16 category, Uddayvir Singh cut short Shrut Mohan’s undefeated campaign with a strait-set victory in the final. Shrut offered some resistance in the opening set before going down 5-7. In the second set Uddayvir was in complete control as he swept away his opponent 6-1 to lay his hands on the trophy.

Princy Panchal, meanwhile, overcame Priyanka Jakhar to win the girls’ U-16 title.

After winning the opening set with ease, Princy was made to fight in the second set before she won 6-2 7-5. 

In the boys’ U-16 doubles final, Abhay Mohan and Uddayvir Singh rallied from a set down to beat Sarabjot Singh and Manveer Singh. 

Abhay and Uddayvir lost the first set 1-6, but came back to draw level with a 6-2 win the second set. In the decider, the duo blanked Sarabjot and Manveer 10-0.


Tennis meet from April 3

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association is organising CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament for Boy’s and Girl’s (U-14 and 

U-18) from April 3 to April 7, the organisers said here on Friday. The qualifying matches for the event will be played on April 1 and 2 at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10. The main draw sign-in will be held on Sunday, while the main draw matches will start at 8.30am on Monday.
