Abohar: A tree plantation drive was launched at Government Senior Secondary School in Diwankhera village near Abohar on Monday.  

During the function, rich tributes were paid to Amrita Devi Beniwal, who sacrificed her life, along with her daughters Asu, Ratni and Bhagu, in 1730 to save trees from being felled by the Maharaja of Jodhpur in Marwar, Rajasthan. Along with her, more than 363 other Bishnois died saving the trees.

During the tree plantation drive, launched with the help of Forest Department on the occaion, saplings would be distributed among students. They will be motivated to plant them at their houses and public places and also monitor their growth at least for a year.  OC
