Ranjit Singh is Takht Patna Sahib jathedar

Takht Patna Sahib Management Board has appointed Giani Ranjit Singh ‘Gauhar-e-Maskeen’ as the new Jathedar of the Takht. The decision was taken in a meeting held today at Patna.
Giani Ranjit Singh took over the charge in the presence of various prominent religious personalities, including Akal Takht head priest Malkit Singh, Takht Kesgarh Sahib jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, Takht Patna Sahib Board head Avtar Singh Hit and Takht Hazur Sahib Managing Committee head Bhupinder Singh Minhas.
A noted ‘kathavachak’ (preacher) Giani Ranjit Singh commands honours for his in-depth knowledge of Gurmat and Gubani.
Since March 6, Giani Rajinder Singh was officiating the position after the board unanimously accepted the ‘dramatic’ resignation of controversial Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh, after turning down the move of the Board’s then general secretary Mohinder Singh Dhillon who came in favour of the latter.
Born in Gurdaspur
- Giani Ranjit Singh was born at Daulatpur village in Gurdaspur district. His father, Jawand Singh Bajwa, served in the British army and was part of World War II troop.
- As per information, he graduated from RSP College, Jharia, in Dhanbad, Bihar. In 1984, he was married to Bibi Ranjit Kaur. The couple has five daughters and one son.
