Kapurthala district administration and police held meetings on Monday to draw up a plan for 550th birth anniversary celebrations of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev, in November.
Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner (DC) DPS Kharbanda said Sultanpur Lodhi will be divided into 15 sectors and 22 posts. Thirteen core departments—health, police, fire control, water supply and sanitation, local bodies, revenue, and SDRF—have been asked to keep their staff on standby.
Key departments have until October 9 to submit a detailed plan to deploy their officials over a special mobile application made for the purpose ‘Parkash Purab 550’.
All officials deployed for the event will have a smart phone, with their GPS locations being tracked for better coordination.
Some 150 swimmers and divers from Punjab Police’s sports wing will also be on standby along Kali Bein, a holy rivulet. Deputy Commissioner Kharbanda said a total of 44 ambulances should be on stationed at important points in the area, and also suggested keeping an air ambulance on standby in case of emergencies.
Separate passes will be issued for VVIPs, city residents, officials on duty, sewadars performing langar sewa, and the press.
Sikhs will mark the birth anniversary Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, on November 12.
