To woo voters, manifestos promise clean water, gyms

Election manifestos are usually part of state and parliamentary elections but here in Muktsar district, some candidates vying for the post of sarpanch too have come up with their manifestos.

Notably, the panchayat elections are being held on a non-party basis. Candidates, who have come up with their manifestos, have assured the voters in writing that they will try their best to resolve the issues after winning the elections.

These promises range from ensuring library to laying concrete streets, setting up gymnasium, park, ensuring purified water, cleaning of the village pond, facilitating adequate infrastructure in government schools etc. Some candidates have also assured to make villages free of drugs.

Bhupinder Singh, a candidate for the post of sarpanch from Gurusar village, who has put up his poll manifesto on social media, has touched almost every issue.

A sarpanch candidate said, “It is our duty to fulfil the promises made by us during the polls so a number of candidates have given it in writing to the public this time. It will make the winner accountable.” Candidates have printed their posters and displayed these on prominent locations and vehicles.
