New Delhi, December 21

A member in the Lok Sabha on Friday demanded that the British government should apologise for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that happened in Amritsar in 1919.

The demand was made by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) member Prem Singh Chandumajra during Zero Hour.

He said the Indian government should put pressure on the British government and seek an apology for the massacre.

It would be the centenary year of the massacre in 2019 and the government has prepared a blueprint for the year-long commemoration.

Troops of the British Indian Army, under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer, had fired on civilians who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh for a peaceful protest in 1919 and scores of people had died. PTI
