Bid to set rly stations ablaze

Bathinda: In Moga district, dera protesters threw a petrol bomb at the Dugru railway crossing, but the gang man present at the station threw away the bottle and no loss was reported. Dera followers also tried to set railway stations at Balluana, Malout and Gidderbaha in Muktsar district on fire. At Malout, the police reached the spot and averted the tragedy. However, benches installed at the railway station were burnt. Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla said they had nabbed three persons in the case pertaining to throwing of a petrol bomb at the Balluana railway station. In Malout, the protesters tried to set a petrol pump on fire. TNS

In Moga, petrol bottle hurled  

Moga: No untoward incident was reported in the district on Friday. No government or private buses plied. Only a few private vehicles were seen on roads. A passenger train, Sutlej Express, ran between Ludhiana and Ferozepur via Moga in the morning. Later, all trains were suspended. Petrol pumps and liquor shops closed in the afternoon. A stray incident of a miscreant throwing a petrol bottle at the gate of a railway crossing in the district’s Dagru village was reported. The bottle, however, did not catch fire. The miscreants, reportedly drunk, came on a motorcycle and fled from the spot. tns

Alert locals save govt property  

Sangrur: Some miscreants tried to damage government property in Sangrur and Barnala districts. But the alertness of locals prevented any major damage. The Sangrur police have arrested five persons, who were carrying petrol-filled bottles and sharp-edged weapons. As per information, some unidentified miscreants on two motorcycles tried to set the tehsil office and “fard kendras” in Lehragaga on fire. But officers, with the help of some locals, posted in the tehsil office doused the fire after some loss of documents and furniture. At Khandewad village, some unidentified persons tried to set the Power Department grid on fire and also tried to attack an employee. But when all employees converged, assailants fled. tns

Premis return home dejected 

Bathinda: The state headquarters of Dera Sacha Sauda at Salabatpura in the district remained calm on Friday. When the news of the CBI court holding the dera head guilty came, the disappointed followers started leaving the dera and went to their houses. A Bhagta police station official claimed that no incident was reported at or near the dera at Salabatpura. TNS
