AISSF celebrates 75th anniversary in Moga, Peer Mohammad steps down

On the eve of 75th anniversary of All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), the Sikh organisation vowed to work on the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs, and, dedicate its work to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Guru of the Sikh community.
In a function held here on Friday, the AISSF leadership appointed Jagroop Singh Cheema as its new president while the former President Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad will act as a Patron of the organisation.
Peer Mohammad remained as President of the AISSF for more than 20 years until he offered to step down last year. He joined the Akali Dal (Taksali), a breakaway group of the Shiromani Akali Dal.
The AISSF leadership also appointed Prabhjot Singh of Faridkot as the General Secretary.
Eminent Sikh personalities Professor Manjit Singh, former Deputy Speaker Bir Davinder Singh, Bibi Satwant Kaur, Bhai Harvinder Singh Khalsa, former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Sarabhjit Singh Sohal, Ranjit Singh Muktsar and Jathedar Harbans Singh Manjpur appreciated Karnail Peer Mohammad for handing over the reins of the organisation to the younger generation.
The AISSF delegates celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Gurdwara Bibi Kahn Kaur in Moga and vowed to fight against drug abuse in Punjab and protect the land of its Gurus to make it clean.
Peer Mohammad talked about the history of AISSF and urged other federation groups to come under one banner and start working on the right principals for which this organisation was established 75 years back. The other dignitaries who were present congratulated the organisation and stressed upon the need to “uplift” the Sikh panth and its values.
