Three times Congress MLA from Samrala Amrik Singh Dhillon is banking on his son Kamaljit Singh Dhillon for success in the Assembly elections. Kamaljit is the man behind his everyday election campaign.

A close aide of the MLA said Amrik’s son was equal to his mentor, who took every significant decision on the election campaign.

Amrik has won three Assembly elections from Samrala in 1997, 2002 and 2012. He lost to the SAD candidate in 2007.

Kamaljit, who is also a treasurer in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), has been actively working to pacify the dissidents within the party. He is also said to have been successful in bringing many SAD leaders and workers into the Congress fold recently.

“After I wake up at 6 in the morning, I sit with my father to decide the day’s election campaign plan. Sometimes, we divide the area for campaigning and sometimes, we hold joint campaigns in the constituency. My father even takes feedback of the whole day from me in the evening,” Kamaljit said.

He had taken care of the election campaign of his father in the past four Assembly elections, and now in the fifth one, his past experience is expected to come in handy, Kamaljit added.

Even the son of Kamaljit, Karanvir Singh Dhillon (26) has been leaving no stone unturned to help his grand- father in the campaign. “He (Karanvir), too, holds daily meetings with youngsters of the constituency. He meets young voters and informs them about the development plans of his grandfather for the constituency,” Kamaljit said, adding that with the involvement of his son, he gets huge morale support and confidence.

He said the door-to-door campaign had started. He, along with his father, visits every household in the constituency.
